Physicians Named to Leadership Roles in Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center

Geraldine Jacobson, MD, chief of radiation oncology for WVU Hospitals has been named physician-in-chief of radiation oncology for the Cancer Center.
Hannah Hazard, MD, has been named surgeon-in-chief and director of clinical services of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at West Virginia University, and Michael Craig, MD, has been named the Cancer Center’s physician-in-chief of oncology by Clay Marsh, MD, vice president and executive dean for health sciences.
Together, this team will oversee all clinical programs and activities at the MBRCC.

MBRCC receives grant for improving care for patients with metastatic breast cancer

MBRCC Cancer Prevention and Control Director Stephenie Kennedy, EdD, working in partnership with Dr. Gerry Jacobson in the WVU Department of Radiation Oncology; Dr. Jessica Partin, chief of breast surgery at WVU; and Jaime Good, breast program coordinator at the Cancer Center, received a small Pfizer grant entitled, "Improving Care for Patients with Metastatic Breast Cancer through a Provider Education Initiative." The main aims of the project, include identifying and implementing a mechanism for opening the MBRCC Weekly Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Tumor Board Conferences to community oncologists/practitioners, developing and delivering a face-to-face training session addressing emerging research, clinical trials, and mechanisms of action for new drugs in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer, and developing and disseminating quarterly podcasts on breast cancer screening, treatment, and trials. Amy Allen and Jenny Ostien of MBRCC Cancer Prevention and Control are serving as an advisory board for this project. Please mark your calendars for Friday, July 10 for a one-day conference on the treatment of metastatic breast cancer and survivor issues at the WVU Erickson Alumni Center; more information and a Save-the-Date card will be available in the near future.
Tobacco intervention training offered
The WV Division of Tobacco Prevention will sponsor Brief Tobacco Intervention Training Sessions in Beckley on June 9, at Stonewall Resort on June 10 and at Blennerhassett Hotel on June 11. Health Sciences Library to offer RefWorks workshop
The Health Sciences Library will offer a RefWorks workshop in the HSC Learning Center (LC 1) on Wednesday (April 15) from 9A to 10A. Attendees will learn how to import references automatically from multiple databases, organize and manage references and share references to easily collaborate. Powder Puff Football Tournament to benefit the WVU Breast Care Center and Bonnie's Bus
Eight teams of female high school students from north central West Virginia will participate in the "Fight Like a Girl" Powder Puff Football Tournament at Liberty High School in Bridgeport on April 12 to benefit the West Virginia University Betty Puskar Breast Care Center and Bonnie's Bus. Gates will open at 11:30 a.m.

Internal Funding Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (PSCoR) - posts RFP
PSCoR is an annual Research Office program that provides funding for research that will leverage external funding opportunities. As a condition of the award, each PI is required to submit a proposal to an external agency. Please note that this solicitation is limited to proposals that are requesting funding in support of a re-submission of a federal agency application. The PI should email the proposal to Dr. Mustafa by May 12.
