Coach Huggins advances to round 3 in the Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge

Coach Bob Huggins has advanced to Round 3 in the Infiniti Coaches Charity Challenge.  Mountaineer fans need to keep voting daily for Huggins at ESPN.COM/INFINITI. to help him move into the Final Four of the competition.  Voting ends at 11:59A on March 1.   Huggins is vying for the chance to win $100,000 for his Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund at the MBRCC.  Your votes will help push the Huggins Endowment Fund over the $1 million bar!  The Huggins Fund supports clinical research, specifically providing access to cancer clinical trials for all West Virginians.

Breast cancer research study being conducted in WV

The University is conducting a research study of English-speaking women in West Virginia, aged 40-50 years. Participants are being sought for an online survey study about breast cancer. Click on this link to view the online survey.  Kim Kelly, PhD, leads this study. Dr. Kelly is an associate professor in the School of Pharmacy Department of Pharmaceutical Systems & Policy.

I have been given the amazing opportunity to return to West Virginia University, the place I called home for eight years as an undergraduate and a medical student. WVU and the State of West Virginia invested heavily in my future, including by selecting me to attend medical school. Now I have the opportunity to pay the state back and create the opportunity to pay forward for our students, our University, and the citizens of our state.

Creative writing workshop begins in March

Continuing and Professional Education is offering a four-week creative writing workshop Mondays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. beginning March 16 in Room 102 of Woodburn Hall. Participants will share their work for support and feedback while learning about the submission and publishing process.

"Internal Customer Service" is an innovative four-week online course, March 9 through April 9, designed to lay a foundation for the concept of internal customer service. Participants will engage in collective conversations that foster effective communication skills that can create and support a collaborative culture within the work environment at the University.

University of Kentucky and WVCTSI partner for pilot grant funding opportunity
The West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute has been named in a collaborative RFA with the University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS). Details are provided below, with additional information on the UK CCTS website.

One award of up to $50,000, in total direct cost, will be given to a clinical and translational project that address health and health care issues relevant to the WVCTSI and UKCCTS and that is likely to lead to longer-term collaborative efforts will receive the strongest consideration for funding. This includes not only biomedical, clinical, and population research, but also research in areas that enhance clinical and translational research, such as biomedical informatics, biostatistics research and community based projects.
