Vandalia-Con: Saving the Mothers of Invention Steampunk Convention to benefit Bonnie’s Bus

Vandalia-Con: Saving the Mothers of Invention Steampunk Convention is West Virginia’s first Steampunk Convention and all proceeds from this unprecedented family-friendly event happening May 27-29 in Parkersburg will go to the Bonnie Wells Wilson Mobile Mammography Program (Bonnie’s Bus).  Vandalia-Con will host a Pink Block Party on May 27 that begins with a health fair from 8A to noon in the Wood County meeting rooms at Blennerhassett Hotel.  Bonnie’s Bus will provide screening mammograms from 2:30P to 6:30P during the Party at Bicentennial Park.

Lori Acciavatti receives Vice President's Award for Outstanding Achievement

Congratulations to Lori Acciavatti, professional technologist for the WVU Cancer Institute.  Lori received the Vice President’s Award for Paraprofessional/Technician during a special ceremony hosted by Clay Marsh, MD, Vice President and Executive Dean, WVU Health Sciences, on Thursday, April 28.  She was nominated by Elena Pugacheva, PhD, of the WVU Cancer Institute for the outstanding job she does on a daily basis.  Dr. Pugacheva praised Lori for overseeing internal and external communications when the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center underwent rebranding, transitioning to the WVU Cancer Institute.  Pugacheva also noted that she appreciates Lori’s availability to help when needed and said she was always positive and respectful.


WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities seeks recruits for Disability & Diversity Scholars Program

The WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities is recruiting graduate and professional students to participate in the Disability & Diversity Scholars Program who are pursuing careers working with individuals with disabilities. Graduate students from diverse backgrounds will be awarded an assistantship starting in the fall semester and continuing through the spring of 2017. The fellows will receive a partial tuition waiver and be paid a stipend for living expenses.

National Science Foundation $300,000 grant to improve retention of STEM students at WVU

The National Science Foundation has recently awarded a $300,000 grant to the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Department of Mathematics, which will partner with the Center for Excellence in STEM Education at WVU.
