Hundreds of cancer survivors celebrate life at survivors day event

WVU Cancer Institute Director Richard Goldberg told a crowd of up to 500 cancer survivors and their caregivers that it is a great day to be a cancer survivor during the Survivors Day Celebration at Lakeview Resort in Morgantown on August 13.  Dr. Goldberg said 23 years ago the number of cancer survivors was much smaller and could have fit inside the lobby.  Dorothy Wilkins of Mt. Morris, PA, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in December, said she was glad to be there because seeing so many cancer survivors gave her hope.  Helen Morris of Grantsville, WV, and a 12-year breast cancer survivor, said she appreciated all the laughter shared with others.  The event was an opportunity for cancer patients to visit with their healthcare providers from WVU outside of a clinical setting and celebrate their victories over cancer.
