Breast cancer patients and advocates to work with Cancer Institute on research projects
An effort is underway at the WVU Cancer Institute to seek the insight of breast cancer patients in the development of breast cancer research projects at the Cancer Institute. A group of breast cancer patients will be identified to work with WVU researchers, advising them on all aspects of research, including what topics to investigate and how the research should be structured.
Dian “CJ” Corneliussen-James, Director Emeritus and Founder of METAvivor Research and Support, Inc., presented a lecture on the importance of metastatic breast cancer advocacy and outreach to members of the Institute’s Breast Cancer Research Program last week as part of the Cancer Cell Biology Spring Seminar Series. Corneliussen-James has metastatic breast cancer. Her organization partners with the Metastatic Research Society and has awarded $2.4 million in research grants to fight metastatic cancer. METAvivor also pledged $2 million to the cancer moonshot initiative.

The West Virginia Program to Increase Colorectal Cancer Screening (WV PICCS) at the WVU Cancer Institute invites you to wear your favorite shade of blue on Friday, March 3 in observance of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and participate in a group picture in the atrium at the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center at 2P.
Colorectal cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in West Virginia. While colon cancer is a significant problem, it does not have to be. If men and women aged 50 years and older are regularly tested for colorectal cancer, at least 60% of deaths from this disease could be avoided.
