PhD Investiture and Graduation Ceremony – 9am, Okey Patteson Auditorium
Ceremony will honor the School of Medicine and School of Pharmacy Masters and PhD graduates

Richard Goldberg, MD, formally installed as DeLynn Chair of Oncology

Hundreds of the WVU Cancer Institute’s loyal friends and supporters attended the Cancer Institute’s 32nd Annual Spring Gala recently to celebrate the progress of the Institute and participate in a wide variety of educational, cultural and unique activities, including the formal installation of its new director Richard Goldberg, MD, as the Laurence S. & Jean J. DeLynn Chair of Oncology.  WVU President Gordon Gee and Clay Marsh, MD, WVU’s vice president and executive dean for health sciences,  presided over the investiture ceremony for Dr. Goldberg during the Connect with Clay open forum discussion with Goldberg and Laura Gibson, PhD, Cancer Institute Deputy Director.

“Rich is one of the best and most recognized colorectal cancer experts in the world,” Marsh told the crowd.  “He’s incredibly grounded and is a good guy who is focused on others.”

President Gee said WVU’s goal is for people to have equal access to great cancer care. “Rich represents our hopes and dreams for this state,” Gee said.

Goldberg said WVU has the opportunity and an obligation to provide better cancer care and to bring cancer prevention and reduction to the state.

In future editions of Enews, we will share more details about the Cancer Institute’s 2017 Annual Spring Gala.

    Organization: NIAMS
Summary: This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits applications that propose to conduct time-sensitive mechanistic ancillary studies related to the NIAMS mission in conjunction with privately or publicly funded, ongoing interventional clinical trials. The ongoing parent project has to be an interventional clinical trial that can provide a cohort of well-characterized patients, infrastructure, data, and biological samples. Applications submitted in response to this FOA will undergo an accelerated review and award process. The objective of this FOA is to provide a flexible mechanism to leverage established resources and maximize the return on existing investments in parent projects. Successful ancillary studies will enhance the scientific content and value of the parent projects, improve the research communitys understanding of a disease or organ system in the NIAMS portfolio, and thus may identify novel targets for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
