West Virginia Lung Cancer Project releases video series
Lung cancer is the leading cancer killer in West Virginia, killing more people each year than breast, cervical, and colorectal cancer combined, yet people don’t know a lot about what can be done to stop it. In light of this, the West Virginia Lung Cancer Project (WVLCP) has released a series of four short informational videos in preparation for Lung Cancer Awareness Month in November.
Cancer Institute leadership issues challenge gift for Inaugural Day of Giving
On Nov. 8, West Virginia University will hold its first Day of Giving, an online fundraising effort to support our greatest priorities and opportunities. Together – on one day- we can help forge a brighter future for WVU.
The Cancer Institute leadership has issued a challenge gift to support our efforts. They have agreed to give $20,000 to the Cancer Institute if 100 donors give to the Cancer Institute on WVU Day of Giving.
We are asking that you join the rest of the WVU Community for this 24-hour online fundraising event. Your support will help the work WVU does around the world, from medical research to helping rebuild communities. We hope you will consider making a gift on November 8th. Your donation online may have the opportunity to be matched.
Please visit dayofgiving.wvu.edu and select Cancer Institute to learn more.

WVU women’s volleyball team players share impact of cancer on their families
Several members of the WVU women’s volleyball team know what it’s like to have loved ones diagnosed with cancer. As the Mountaineers continue their “Set for a Cause, Spike for a Cure” fundraiser through November to benefit the Norma Mae Huggins Cancer Research Endowment Fund at the WVU Cancer Institute, they reflect on cancer’s impact on their families in a video titled Climbing the Mountain: Fighting For a Cure.
WVU swimming and diving teams score victories and raise breast cancer awareness and support
Congratulations and many thanks to the WVU men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. Both teams claimed victory over Seton Hall and Xavier during a two-day meet at the Natatorium on Oct. 27 and 28 and helped the WVU Cancer Institute raise breast cancer awareness and support. Team members wore swim caps that featured a pink flying WV and staff from the Cancer Institute’s Betty Puskar Breast Care Center handed out pink T-shirts to fans who donated to the cause. Nearly $600 was raised for the fight against breast cancer.

Help Shape Employee Guidance for Living WVU’s Values
As you know, the Division of Talent and Culture is committed to creating a great work environment for the approximately 7,000 employees who call WVU home.
And as part of these efforts, we are developing guidance on how employees can live WVU’s values while performing their job duties and responsibilities.
Our goal is for the guidelines to reflect the diverse views of the entire WVU family. That’s why we are seeking input from our workforce across various schools, divisions and departments, including staff, managers and faculty.
