Ivan Nzouatcham Ndjiya, a graduate from the WVU College of Business and Economics, poses next to the MBA - National Cancer Institute exhibit he and his peers presented at the University’s Inaugural Demo Day this past week. The exhibit included a proposal for a researched and designed cancer hospital at WVU and a rough timeline for the hospital to achieve NCI designation, and stems from a partnership between the Cancer Institute and B & E’s BrickStreet Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. The Cancer Institute is seeking the consulting expertise of the Center as the Institute continues to grow.
Dr. Suresh Madhavan to receive AACP’s prestigious Dawson Award for Excellence in Patient Care Research
Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) will recognize S. Suresh Madhavan, M.B.A., Ph.D., FAPhA professor and chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Systems and Policy at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy, for his innovative research addressing the profound health disparities in West Virginia. He will receive the Paul R. Dawson Award for Excellence in Patient Care Research on July 23 during the Science Plenary at Pharmacy Education 2018, the AACP Annual Meeting, in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Madhavan is a WVU Cancer Institute member.
Big tippers: Valets donate $44,000 to Cancer Institute, WVU Medicine Children's
The WVU Medicine valets recently donated nearly $44,000 in tips to the WVU Cancer Institute and WVU Medicine Children's; each institution received a check for $22,000.
Mad Scientists team gears up for Relay For Life

WVU Cancer Institute graduate students are seeking donations for their “Mad Scientists” team to benefit the American Cancer Society Monongalia County Relay For Life at Westwood Middle School on June 8 and 9. This year’s Relay For Life theme is One More Holiday, and the Mad Scientists have chosen WV Day as their theme. Two Cancer Institute physicians featured in WVU Medicine newsletter
Valerie B. Galvan Turner, MD, and Shalu Pahuja, MD, are featured in the latest issue of the WVU Medicine Cabinet. Dr. Turner, who specializes in the treatment of female cancer, suggests questions that patients should ask their gynecologist. Dr. Pahuja, an oncologist, highlights some of the critical signs of colorectal cancer. |

Purpose of the grant is to fund research that will develop strategies leading to the development of therapies for the prevention of the transition from pre-leukemia to leukemia for patients with the familial RUNX1 disorder. Projects should focus on familial RUNX1 disorder rather than acquired RUNX1 mutations seen during the evolution of AML.

WV 2018 Summer Policy Institute set for July 27-29
The West Virginia 2018 Summer Policy Institute (SPI) will be held at the Marshall University campus in Huntington, WV on July 27-29. The event will bring together highly-qualified undergraduate and graduate students for a three-day learning experience, where participants are given an opportunity to become better informed about vital West Virginia specific policy issues, network with fellow students and leaders, and prepare for their future studies and work in policy-related fields.
Request for Applications: Chronic Disease Research Program (CDRP)
Letter of intent due May 1, 2018. WV-INBRE is announcing a Request for Applications for WV-INBRE network investigators to conduct pilot research on projects related to chronic disease (e.g. cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, obesity, addiction, etc.). The CDRP pilot award program targets small, focused research projects related to the multi-disciplinary research theme of WV-INBRE: cellular and molecular biology with an emphasis on chronic disease to generate preliminary data for publications and grant applications.

OnPAR provides innovative and exceptional research applications with a second opportunity for funding.
