John C. Byrd of OSU to present annual DeLynn lecture

John C. Byrd, M.D will lecture on targeted therapies in leukemia on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, in the Okey Patteson Auditorium (Health Sciences Center-North), at 4:00 pm. A Q&A reception will follow the lecture. The event is free and open to the public. For those who cannot attend, the event also will be webcast.

Byrd is an internationally known researcher and clinical specialist in leukemia and other hematologic malignancies at Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute where he serves as Senior Advisor for Cancer Experimental Therapeutics.  He is a Distinguished University Professor of Medicine and Medicinal Chemistry and holds the D. Warren Brown Chair in Leukemia Research.

Summer Undergraduate Cancer Research Program

Last Monday, July 29th, the WVU Cancer Institute teamed with the WVU Eye Institute to host a Summer Symposium for its Summer Undergrad Research Programs.  The symposium is the culmination of the students work over the 10 weeks they have spent in labs across the two institutes.

Nurkiewicz named Physiology and Pharmacology chair

Timothy Nurkiewicz, Ph.D., has been named chair of the WVU School of Medicine’s Department of Physiology and Pharmacology.

As a longstanding faculty member Nurkiewicz has held various leadership positions during his tenure, including associate chair of Research, professor, and vice chair within the Department. Nurkiewicz is also the director of the recently formed HSC Center for Inhalation Toxicology.
