Board of Governors proposes tightening of tobacco-free campus policy
A clarification and tightening of West Virginia University’s tobacco-free campus rules was approved for comment Friday by the Board of Governors.
The move is part of an ongoing revision of University governance stemming from the state Legislature’s adoption last year of laws permitting more independence from the state Higher Education Policy Commission.
The proposed new rules, which will be available for public comment from Monday (Dec. 17) through Jan. 21, clarify that the ban includes not only the use of tobacco products, but any form of smoking, including electronic smoking devices and vapor products.

WVPBRN building Core Survey; seeking input
Do you have a clinical question that would aid in developing a research idea or project? This is an opportunity to gain knowledge about a topic or question in primary care settings. The West Virginia Practice-Based Research Network (WVPBRN) is unveiling a new survey platform, the Collective Outreach and Research Engagement (CORE) Survey.
Similar in design to the nationwide CERA Survey, the CORE Survey is a compilation of survey questions from multiple clinicians and/or investigators relating to a variety of primary care topics in WV. Clinicians and/or investigators may apply to the WVPBRN to have their questions included in the survey. The WVPBRN will select the top questions (not to exceed 30 questions total) that are most relevant and of interest to network members. Proposals for the WVPBRN CORE Survey are due by January 11, 2019 at 5:00pm EST. The WVPBRN will then send the CORE Survey to members in early spring 2019.
Clinicians and/or researchers selected for the survey will have exclusive access to their portion of the survey results within 30 days after the conclusion of the survey. The results are shared with the investigator first to allow publishing and proposal development. The Network can access the survey data after 120 days of survey completion. For an example list of CERA Survey articles, visit CERA Scholarly Activity. For questions or additional information, please contact Angie DeWitt at amdewitt@hsc.wvu.edu or visit the survey webpage.
