Marc W. Haut, Ph.D., has been chosen to serve in a new leadership role as vice chair and director of clinical research and education for the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute. Currently the chair of West Virginia University’s department of behavioral medicine and psychiatry, Dr. Haut is also professor in the departments of neuroscience, neurology and radiology and the WVU Cancer Institute. - The State Journal Online

Doctor went beyond the call to care for patient
Dr. Masood Ahmad came into our lives in December 2016 when my husband was diagnosed with kidney cancer and high blood pressure.

Teams Forming for The 25th Annual Walk 100 Miles In 100 Days®
This year marks the 25th anniversary for the program which starts on Monday, April 15 and runs through Tuesday, July 23. “Last year we had over 4,700 people participate,” said Dave Harshbarger, wellness manager for WVU Medicine making Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days® the largest exercise program in the state.
Participation in this program has been made easier this year by eliminating the use of paper registration and replacing it with online registration through the Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days® Registration Portal!
Team forming for WVU Relay for Life
WVU Relay for Life will take place from 6 PM - 12 AM, Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Shell Building next to the Coliseum. In addition to being able to raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS) as we always have, this new venue will also give us the opportunity to reach out to the undergraduate population and promote the Biomedical Sciences program (some of them may be interested in research and just don't know it yet!).

Marshall University named R2 research institution
Marshall University was recently selected as an R2 research institution by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This classification recognizes the growth of research infrastructure and innovative research taking place at Marshall. Over the past two-and-a-half years Marshall’s research expenditures have increased 25 percent from $23 million to $31 million.

The OCRP Clinical Development Award is intended to provide support for the translation of promising preclinical findings into products for clinical applications, including prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, or quality of life. WVCTSI announces three pilot funding opportunities
The West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute has released requests for applications for the Collaborative RFA, Small Grant RFA, and Launch Pilot Grant funding opportunities. The Collaborative RFA allows applicants to request up to $50,000 in funding which must be utilized over a 12-month period. This funding opportunity requires two principal investigators from at least two participating institutions (Marshall University, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and WVU - all campuses).
