Thoracic Specialist Attends Mobile Conference

Dr. Kyle Chapman, Assistant Professor and Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine Assistant Program Directory recently attended Thoracic Imaging 2023, the annual meeting of the Society of Thoracic Radiology in Charleston, South Carolina. While there he presented on how WVU Cancer Institute uses mobile screening for lung cancer detection (LUCAS).  In addition he was invited to participate on a panel discussion with other leaders from around the country to highlight mobile screening programs in rural Appalachia.

Cancer Prevention and Control Team Selected to Serve On Task Force

The Association of Community Cancer Centers and the Appalachian Community Cancer Alliance responded to the call of the President and First Lady's, Cancer Moonshot Initiative by creating the Rural Appalachian Lung Cancer Screening Task Force. The Task Force’s charge is to identify evidence-based, collaborative solutions to address disparities in lung cancer screening rates seen in rural Appalachia. The Task Force is comprised of representatives from state oncology societies, healthcare professionals working in Appalachia, researchers, and patient advocacy representatives from the LUNGevity Foundation and the Cancer Support Community including our own WVUCI Mobile Lung Cancer Screening Program Manager, Lauren McCauley-Hixenbaugh.
