Gray Day in May: Providers, Staff, Patients, Families Come Together to Raise Brain Cancer Awareness
WVU Medicine employees and WVU faculty and staff gathered on May 17 for “Gray Day in May” to honor patients living with brain tumors and those who have passed.
In its second year, Gray Day in May was led by the WVU Cancer Institute’s neuro-oncologist Sonikpreet Aulakh, MD, who welcomed many patients and their loved ones in attendance. This event focuses on supporting, empowering, and amplifying the voice of the brain-tumor community. Attendees wore gray in support of patients and to raise awareness about the need for ongoing research and advancements in the treatment of brain tumors.
"Gray Day in May is our annual brain cancer awareness event that brings together patients (and their caregivers) who are battling with brain tumors,” Dr. Aulakh said. “Patients and families shared their brain-tumor journey, and our healthcare workers discussed how they navigate to help patients in the best possible way. We honored the ones who have lost their lives to brain tumors with a promise that we'll continue to aim higher for more advanced science. My heart is full!”
