West Virginia Oncology Society 2023 Fall Conference 

WVOS Fall meeting will be an evening to meet vendors and colleagues, enjoy a great dinner, and hear from two excellent speakers. 
Dr. Dan Nikcevich MD, PhD from Essentia Health Cancer Center in Minnesota will talk about Enhancing Rural Trials: Engaging Communities and Cultivating Collaboration, and Dr. Jean Bustamante Alvarez, MD from New York Cancer & Blood Specialists will talk about The Role of Liquid Biopsies in Oncology: Uses, Challenges and Opportunities.

WVU Cancer Institute MBRCC Hosts Annual Community Skin Cancer Screening Event

On September 20, the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center welcomed 91 people to a skin cancer screening and prevention event.  This annual event was last held in 2019 due to the pandemic. "We were thrilled to bring back this valuable screening and prevention event.  It enables us to provide a valuable service and give back to our community," Patricia Policicchio, oncology quality coordinator.

The clinic was staffed by MBRCC Dermatology team and medical residents.

NCI Predoctoal to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award Announced

The NCI issued an RFA for the NCI Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Fellow Transition Award (F99/K00), due November 17, 2023. The F99/K00 award provides up to 6 years of support in two phases. The F99 phase provides 1-2 years of support for dissertation research, and the K00 phase provides up to 4 years of mentored postdoctoral research career development support at the US laboratory of their choosing. This funding mechanism is a limited submission opportunity and only one submission per institution (per deadline) is allowed. WVUCI is seeking pre-proposals from any student/mentor team interested in applying for this NCI funding opportunity. Pre-proposals must be received at kate.griffin@hsc.wvu.edu no later than 5 PM on Monday, October 10 for consideration. 


Virtual Mindfulness Series Scheduled To Begin Oct. 5

Mindful Steps is a free 6-week series designed to assist in developing and maintaining mindful resilience, mental fitness, and improved relaxation response.
