Pink Out Photo Shoot

When: 10/20/2023 12:00 PM - 10/20/2023 12:15 PM
Event Location: Mary Babb Randolph Cancer, Morgantown (meet outside at sidewalk near front entrance)
WVU Hospitals employees are invited to wear pink and pearls on Friday, Oct. 20 – National Mammography Day – and participate in a photo shoot to promote both Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is recognized in October, and Lung Cancer Awareness Month, which is observed in November.
The photoshoot will take place at noon, outside, in front of the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center, located on WVU Medicine's Morgantown campus. Employees are asked to arrive a few minutes early.
We would also like to re-introduce the Pink and Pearl campaign is an effort of the WVU Cancer Institute and Mountains of Hope, the state's cancer coalition., that focuses on bringing awareness to the prevalence of and screening options for breast and lung cancer. The campaign lasts through October and November. The color pink is associated with breast cancer awareness, while white (or pearl) is a symbol of lung cancer awareness. Breast cancer is the most diagnosed cancer and the second-leading cause of cancer death in West Virginia women. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in West Virginia and beyond. Our goal is to bring awareness to both breast and lung cancer and to encourage everyone to get their recommended cancer screenings.
Note: While employees are encouraged to wear pink, they should follow Dress and Appearance Policy V.250S.
Remember that early screening – for every form of cancer – saves lives. To that end, I’d like to re-introduce the Pink and Pearl campaign, an initiative of the WVU Cancer Institute and Mountains of Hope, West Virginia’s cancer coalition, that focuses on bringing awareness to the prevalence of and screening options for breast and lung cancer throughout West Virginia and surrounding areas. The campaign lasts through October and November, and adds the color pearl, which represents lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths in West Virginia and beyond.
