WVU Cancer Institute Recognized at WVU Women’s Soccer Game

Kristin Lupinacci, DO, breast surgical oncologist; Shannon Filburn, clinical nurse coordinator for surgical oncology/breast surgery and Hannah Hazard-Jenkins, MD, breast surgical oncologist and director of the WVU Cancer Institute; represented the WVU Cancer Institute at the WVU Women’s Soccer “pink game” on Oct. 17 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. The annual event brings attention to the importance of early detection through routine cancer screening and honors those affected by breast cancer. WVU players wore pink jerseys. WVU defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders by a score of 2-0. 

Another WVU Athletics “pink game” presented by the WVU Cancer Institute will take place this Saturday, Oct. 23, as the WVU Women’s Volleyball team takes on the Baylor Bears at the WVU Coliseum at 5 p.m.

Employees ‘Pink Out’ at Ruby

A group of Ruby Memorial employees in Pink attire stand as a group to bring awareness to breast cancer month.On Wednesday (Oct. 20), WVU Medicine J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital employees wore their favorite pink shirts, pants, scarves, and ties in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As part of “pink out” day, employees were invited to gather for a group photo.

Save the Date for the Next AACE Engagement Lounge
The next AACE Engagement Lounge features Cancer Education within Diverse Communities on Thursday, 28 October 2021, at 3:00 to 4:30 PM EDT.
AACE Engagement Lounges are Zoom Meetings focusing on topics relevant to the work of our members. This Engagement Lounge will be open to all who might have an interest, not simply AACE members.


St. Baldrick’s Foundation Scholar (Career Development) Award Funding Opportunity
The Scholar (Career Development) Award is meant to help develop the independent research of highly qualified individuals still early in their careers. Recipients are called St. Baldrick’s Scholars. In addition to research to understand the biology of childhood cancers and discover leads to more effective treatments, topics of interest include but are not limited to: adolescents & young adults; survivorship, outcomes, and quality of life; supportive care; epidemiology and pediatric cancer predispositions; precision medicine; and alternative & complementary therapies.
Funding: Up to $110,000/year for 2-year minimum
Letter of Intent (LOI) due by December 3, 2021; applications due by February 18, 2022.
