Local VFD Conducts Raffle on Behalf of the Comfort Fund

The Brookhaven Volunteer Fire Department recently conducted a raffle fundraiser on behalf of the Michael Craig Comfort Fund at the WVU Cancer Institute.  Staff from the WVU Cancer Institute were on hand to greet the firetruck and accept the $2200 donation. We are deeply grateful to our generous community for helping us make a tangible impact on our patients at a time when they are facing a diagnosis of cancer which is an emotional and financially challenging time for them.

The Comfort Fund’s purpose is to provide temporary assistance to oncology patients who are receiving their care at West Virginia University Cancer Institute/Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center.  The fund is utilized directly by patients until they can be linked with appropriate community, state or national resources. The types of assistance offered cover various areas of need associated with cancer treatment including medication costs, lodging, transportation, and other supportive and social services. There is no overhead for this fund, and all money donated goes directly into the Comfort Fund for patient assistance.
Please join us on November 2nd to Shine A Light on Lung Cancer by wearing white. We will take a picture in the Don Hoylman Family Atrium on Thursday, November 2nd at 12. We will have an informational table set up on the Cancer Center Ground Floor throughout November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month. This will include information about all parts of the lung cancer journey. The event is in collaboration with Go2 For Lung Cancer. Shine A Light events are being held across the country throughout November.
